Prioritize Equity in Education. Close the opportunity gap and give all children a high-quality education regardless of their background or zip code.

As an educator, I know firsthand how important it is to invest in our schools, teachers, staff and students. In the Assembly, count on me to:

  1. Increase funding for K-12 education to provide additional resources for schools in low-income neighborhoods and reduce the achievement gap.

  2. Expand access to early childhood education programs to ensure that all children have an equal opportunity to succeed.

  3. Provide financial assistance to students attending community college to reduce the financial burden of higher education and expand access by reining in costs and prioritizing in-state admissions.

  4. In partnership with local unions, increase access to vocational training programs to prepare students for well-paying, local jobs in growing industries.

  5. Reforming the policies around Title IX to ensure all students get the opportunities they deserve.

Deliver Environmental Justice. Build a more sustainable California by passing policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition our economy to 100% clean energy, and ensure that all communities have access to clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment.

District 79 is home to a high percentage of low-income residents and communities of color, who are disproportionately impacted by environmental hazards. Here’s my plan:

  1. Allocate additional funds to the California Environmental Protection Agency to enforce environmental regulations and address environmental injustices.

  2. Require that all new development projects undergo an environmental justice analysis to identify potential impacts on marginalized communities and develop relief measures.

  3. Support policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition California to a 100% clean energy economy, while supporting local, well-paying jobs in new industries within our district.

  4. Invest in better, cleaner, and more efficient infrastructure, such as public transportation to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.

  5. Hold polluters accountable for creating unsafe conditions in our communities and use funds won from pollution prosecutions to invest in local jobs and the economy.

Address the Homelessness Crisis. Take on homelessness by supporting compassionate and comprehensive policies that get more people into shelters and keep more families, seniors, veterans, and youth in their homes.

In the Assembly, I will:

  1. Increase funding for wrap-around services and affordable housing programs that specifically target seniors, veterans, and youth populations, including the California Veterans Housing and Homelessness Prevention program.

  2. Develop a coordinated plan to prevent homelessness and provide supportive services to those at risk of becoming homeless, including equitable housing policies, eviction protection, job training, mental health services, and addiction treatment.

  3. Expand outreach efforts to identify and assist homeless veterans, seniors, and youth with accessing affordable housing, health care, social services, and education and employment assistance.

  4. Collaborate with local governments and community organizations to implement effective, evidence-based solutions that address the root causes of homelessness and provide funding to develop more affordable and supportive housing.

  5. Increase funding for emergency shelter and outreach programs to provide immediate assistance to unsheltered populations.

  6. Implement measures to prevent housing discrimination, including expanding housing choice voucher programs.

Deliver Real Affordable Housing and Equitable Transportation. Deliver truly affordable housing at every level of income so no family or worker struggles to put a roof over their heads. Increase public transportation so only one form of transit is needed to get to a destination.

Protect Our Planet and the Voiceless. Fight for stronger animal welfare and anti-cruelty legislation, protect California's wildlife, and continue to make California a leader in the fight against climate change.

Create a Stronger Economy.  Bring more good-paying jobs to our community, fight for better wages and working conditions, and deliver affordable child care now.

Protect our families with safer communities. Be a leader in the fight against gun violence; get illegal guns off the streets, and champion legislation that addresses systemic issues contributing to gun violence so every Californian, regardless of race or gender, will feel safe in every community.

Build a More Just California. Support policies that address racial and gender inequities and promote social justice, and always protect the right to vote, women’s health care and reproductive freedoms, and our civil rights.
